I must say, your experience with Qantas is 100% opposite of mine. I make it a point to not fly with them if I had a choice. The thing with Qantas is, your status totally matters. Being a pleb means I got to go through the standard channels...
Picture this, you are stuck in Victoria during COVID and you haven't been anywhere in like 2 years. It's been announced that Dec (whatever the date was) is when the borders are open and you can actually go on a plane overseas. Booked a couple of tickets for the first flight (almost the first flight) out of Melbourne and since it's still so many months before Dec, only Qantas is available. Can't be as bad as the last time you thought. Everyone deserves another go you said to yourself. Leaving Australia was the easy part, coming back was the mindf**k as we got COVID. We live in the digital age yeh, so you should be able to do everything online. But wait, Qantas doesn't live in the digital age.....tried changing my flights online. Website said it worked, but we didn't hear anything. Tried to do changes again, says I can't do it online anymore, gotta call the friendly service desk. Every call is a 3 hour & 20 minute wait to speak with someone before a) Line drops off; b) Type type type, "Let me transfer you"; c) Success (that one time). I reckon I spent more then 30+ hours trying to change my flight till I eventually told them to refund my ticket back to Australia. Also, did I mention it took more then 6 months and multiple more calls to get the refund paid into my account....
Apologies for the rant, but I do agree that Singapore Airlines is one of my preferred choice as well.
