This article highlights a recurring trend where, because of the push towards more "green" energy, governments are closing down coal and nuclear plants in favor of renewable sources.
What happens is that coal, oil, gas and hydro power are reliable. Within 5-10 minutes you know exactly what a plant can produce and it will do so as long as there is fuel and the need.
Solar and wind, while they are good for passive generation, they depend on the weather. That is why grid managers place renewable power in a "supplemental" class of power generation.
While it is great for individuals to take the time and money to invest in solar generation for their own home or on a smaller scale, the technology is simply not where it needs to be in order to begin to replace dirty power.
Maybe the next generation of panels will meet the requirements for grid scale power, but now, the power generated does not justify the costs, and lacks the reliability.
