Hello Hive!

It's Good Friday on our end. As Christian it is one of the most important holiday because it commemorates the passion and death of Christ.

Catholics follow a set of traditions on this day and that includes fasting and abstinence in eating meat.

This is a practice Catholics follow religiously. People abstain from eating meat and choose to prepare food that do not contain meat ingredient.

In connection to this tradition, and Filipinos being generally generous, we love to share a little of what we have to our neighbors especially when it comes to food that we usually cook or prepare on special occasions. Good Friday is not an exemption to this undying tradition and trait.

My neighbor and a very close friend and fellow hiver labanez@labanez came home here in the province during the holidays and ever since she was home, she always got a little something for me which I am very thankful for.

This time she handed me a buko (young coconut). I was happy when she gave me one since its been a long time that I had a taste of a young coconut meat. It is "meat" but it's vegan so in this case we stil follow the Catholic tradition. 😁

Coconut when young is eaten raw and fresh. Its meat is still soft and its juice is so refreshing, perfect for this hot summer.

Buko is readily available in the province. The only problem is how to get it from the cococnut tree since climbing the coconut tree requires great skills.

Look at how high a coconut tree is. If you can't find someone to climb it then you'll have to let it mature and wait for the buko to fall to the ground but you can no longer enjoy its yummy goodness.

This is a buko scoop from the buko fruit itself. No need for spoon, this way is better.

I had a scoop of the meat and look how soft it is. This consistency melts in your mouth. This really tasted so good.

I had another scoop. This was not as soft as the first scoop but it tasted as good as the first scoop. There's a little crunch to it.

Really good! Perfect snack on Good Friday.

Sharing food with neighbors on special days is a thing in our community and the country in general. This may look so simple as to how we commemorate Christ's death but the act of giving and sharing is something Christ has always taught us. It is always better to give.

P.S.
The binignit came later. 😅 I was not able to take a photo. It was so mouth watering and we were already hungry when labanez@labanez handed it to us, I forgot to take a photo. Binignit is another traditional food many Filipino households prepare on Good Friday and share to neighbors.
