In the year 1975
The year mother cried
The year father turned his back
The year my existence saw no meaning
A man with no humanity
One who Brought my life to absolute standstill

I wanted school like he did
But femininity deprived me
Father said I had no business
Was I not good enough to be learned?
My fingers crossed my ears, but father screamed no!
Oh! Why shouldn't I be learned like him?

I wanted a school like his
But father said mother had a better school
A school I was to go, and be taught by mother
To please him, he whom I know not
What was I to know?
How would mother ever teach me?

But mother, what was I to learn?
When would I be taught by you?
The kitchen I leave only for the stream
But mother said,
You are being schooled my child.
Oh dear mother, but how?
I want to school, to know more than I do!

It was that day, the day I died
Father saw to my demise
A man older than he, only richer
Father said, a wife was I for him
But why a man old as him?
A man I will never love
A man whose leg is half in a grave!

Mother saw my fate but helped not
For the same fate she suffered
Young like the cub, yet here with him!
Oh father may I not suffer the same fate as mother
Let me school, then I will choose he who comes
Oh father give me not to yet another father!

Here I am, in yet another kitchen
Far away from mother
My tears have garnished my soup taste
My legs are shaking!
Oh, a husband awaits in bed for his new wife
A wife despised by 2 other
I know I am dead
Now I'm just a walking corpse
