What it could rather do is dissipate the desire to invest in Hive, seeing a decrease in return, after investing in the platform.

As I pointed out elsewhere, before the EIP, curation rewards were 50% lower than they are now. There's little to indicate increasing curation rewards led to an increase in investment in Hive. And that's despite the fact that there was a noticeable increase in the quality of the trending page after the EIP (although that's probably more attributable to the downvoting changes that were implemented, than the increase in curation rewards).
