Positive youth development is an approach to intervention that focuses on building student strengths.

Anything, that impacts your ability to learn is a barrier to your education. Learning disabilities are academic barriers. Being sleepy or tired are non-academic barriers.
There are many barriers that can stop a person from pursuing their education but their resiliency can allow them to remain successful.

Resiliency is a person’s ability to succeed despite challenges, obstacles and deficits that may be present in their life.

In order to improve your chances of success in all areas of life you have to acquire assets. Assets are the building blocks of healthy development.
Addressing the broad developmental needs of youth are under the umbrella of positive youth development. We have to focus individually on a youth in order to build their strengths and then connect them with like-minded youths.

Good health habits and health risk management skills are good physical development.
Good coping skills, mental health and self-esteem is a part of psychological and emotional development.
Developing the minds of the youth is no easy task. Their intellectual development is key to their overall development.

Adults and youth must be available and accessible to each other for information, guidance and support

The youth have to be actively engaged in their development. As a community, we should reward, recognize and celebrate them for their achievement in their developments. If youth are aware of their culture and others it can help develop their skills and social justice in their communities.
