Everyone has investigative skills. If you are in a relationship you might have noticed that you or your significant other is quite verse in their investigative process.
As an investigator you have to decide what you want to investigate. What will be the investigative methods you will use? Who will you interview? What do you know about the interviewee? Will you use the library and/or internet? Make sure to avoid plagiarism and cite all the sources you reference.
Let’s take in consideration the recent school shootings in the U.S. Do you believe that stricter gun laws could cripple the amount of school shootings? What are some other issues that can be playing a role in the recent school shootings? Where do “copycat” shooters come into consideration and how to identify them? For example, stricter gun laws can potentially put a lot of people behind bars for long prison sentences for carrying guns that would never participate in a school shooting. Gun laws forbidden the right to bear arms could ultimately violate our constitutional right to bear arms.
There are many ways you can investigate something/someone. Here are 3 approaches that can improve your investigation.
- Put aside your own views and opinions while reading or listening.
- Identify the main point or points the person is making and the evidence offered in support of them.
- Be alert for two kinds of statements
