The "old" Battle Challenges are now a thing of the past (at least for now?) and they have been replaced with the "Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Exploring the Upcoming Release of Conclave Arcana".

For any old Hivers/Splinterlands players who've just come back and are confused, fret not! Even with the name and format tweaks, right at it's core, battles are still the foundation of these posts.

In this week's edition of my Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Exploring the Upcoming Release of Conclave Arcana, I will do something drastically different from my usual battle showcases. Instead of war, I will become a peaceful teacher showing all new players how to most effectively navigate the topic of " Exploring the Upcoming Release of Conclave Arcana".

The buzz is back in the air for Splinterlands, and this time, it’s not about leaderboard grinds or staked SPS politics. It’s about something we haven’t had in a while—a full-fledged, all-new card set: Conclave Arcana. As someone who’s been in the trenches of the Ranked queue long enough to know the sting of a perfectly timed Yodin blast, let me tell you this—Arcana is shaping up to be a potential game-changer. - We’ve had lore in Splinterlands before, sure. But Conclave Arcana feels curated. The fact that it centers around the re-emergence of arcane knowledge and the mysterious power brokers of the Wizard’s Council gives it weight. This isn’t just "new cards because we need new cards." It’s more like... rediscovering a sealed vault of forbidden magic. I’m curious if this is going to set up future factions, rivalries, or even PvE-style expansions.
Hints of a Magic-Meta Shakeup
- Based on the dev teasers so far, we could be looking at a set that elevates magical damage back into the top tiers. With buffs, counters, and maybe new spell-based effects on the horizon, we might finally get a counterplay layer deeper than just “silence the mages and hope for the best.” It’s time Magic users got more creative tools, not just blunt ones.
Possibility of New Mechanics or Keywords
- There’s been a quiet tease of mechanics related to spellcasting, mana manipulation, and delayed effects (think “cast now, trigger later”). This alone opens up entirely new lines of gameplay. We might see cards that don’t just win battles, but set the stage for turns ahead. That’s the kind of forward-planning gameplay that separates casuals from the serious grinders.

🎨 Art, Aesthetics & Lore: What I’m Hoping For

A Return to High-Fantasy Style
- Give me floating towers, eldritch runes, glowing scrolls, and mages whose robes cost more than my entire collection. I want that aesthetic punch that screams “this set is special.” Not just another batch of armored trolls or swamp beasts.
Wizards with Personality
- One thing that’s often overlooked is personality in card design. If we get legendary casters, I want them to feel like characters, not just stat blocks. Give me a tragic necromancer, an arrogant battle sage, or a blind oracle with future-sight. The lore should inspire deck builds and even entire playstyles.
Tie-ins to Existing Champions
- How cool would it be if some of the new cards are apprentices, rivals, or even descendants of older summoners? Conclave Arcana could bridge generations of lore and inject relevance back into the cards we already own.

Deck Diversification is Coming
- Conclave Arcana has the potential to shatter the current meta silo. Right now, certain rule sets and mana caps just auto-default to the same lineups. But if the new cards introduce more conditional utility—cards that trigger on certain turns or require setup—we’ll see more diversity. And that means less boredom, more brains.
Anticipate Higher-Cost Synergies
- With the theme leaning toward high-power spellcasting, I suspect many of the cards will be higher mana cost. That’s not a bad thing. It just means we need to start revisiting slower formats and thinking about how to build for late-game dominance, not just turn-two obliteration.
I’m Already Stocking Up on Old Support Cards
- Let’s be real: every time a new set drops, some old cards suddenly become meta-essential again. Cards like Supply Runner, Spirit Hoarder, or Time Mage might see a huge spike depending on the new synergies. I’ve been quietly scooping up some of these while they’re still cheap. No harm in being ahead of the curve.

🧪 Ghost Cards and Theorycrafting

I’m Praying Training Mode Syncs With the Release
- With Training Mode recently revamped, this is the perfect time to experiment. Once Conclave Arcana cards are in circulation, I’ll be diving in with Ghost copies to test combo chains, rule-set interactions, and synergy decks without burning ECR or risking rank.
Expect Massive Tournaments and DAO Drama
- Anytime we get a new set, the competitive scene explodes. Expect whales to splash hard, but also for budget players to find breakout cards that flip the script. I plan to go full geek mode with spreadsheets once we get the full spoiler list.

If you’ve been on Splinterlands autopilot for a while now, Conclave Arcana might be the wake-up call we needed. It promises not just new cards, but a deeper engagement with the world, the lore, and the meta. This isn't just an expansion—it’s a chance to reimagine how we play the game. As for me? I’ll be on the edge of my seat, fingers hovering over the buy button, watching the early reveals like they’re World Cup penalty shots. Because if Arcana delivers on even half its potential, the age of the battlemage is about to begin.
