So I went for a wedding today, being so excited and waiting to see the bride's gown which is one of my reasons for going aside celebrating with with the couple. There we were at the church waiting, the groom was already there looking so handsome in his suit, the pastor in charge was ready and all that remained was for the bride to give us a majestic entrance.
(Picture taken by sister with her phone camera...My look at the wedding)
Hours passed and people were starting to get impatient, then one of the bridesmaid came to tell the groom that the bride does not want to come out and she is crying in the car. Everyone was thrown into confusion, I mean have heard such but never witnessed one, well I did today lol. I was scared for the groom at a point, after all the preparation just to see it crumble.
After a while, the bride's mother came back in smiling telling the groom that the bride would be coming in anytime soon. Almost immediately the bride came in looking so stunning, her gown was simple but beautiful. When she was giving her vows, she revealed that she was scared. Different thoughts was running through her mind, she having to be married for life scared her and she got cold feet. It was her mother's last minute talk that gave her the push needed to face her fears and that she would have regretted it if she stood him up. You can imagine the excitement on people's face, after which the wedding ceremony went on smoothly.
Growing up, I have always had this thing that restrict my choice or my decisions, this thing we all know to be called fear of the unknown.I was basically scared of making decisions that would open me up to new things because I would just feel like the results may come back wrong. I did not like the idea of having to go to new places or even meeting new people, the what if's just clouds my mind like something is going to go wrong.
Back then when I was in school, waiting for the result after exams was always a hard time. I could always hear my heartbeat when told that the results are out, I would always wish we could write exams without having to get any result, which is however not possible but still I still wished. At a point I feel what I call fear of the unknown is just me getting all negative.
After much thought though, I knew I needed to stop moving forward with that mindset. I needed to face my fears head on, then I started to work on myself doing these....
Surrounding myself with positive people.
Consciously taking risk and hoping for the best and when the best does not come then I accept it and learn from it.
Whenever I start getting those thoughts on anything related to fears, I just pick a memory of a time I made progress and hold onto that.
Funny enough while doing these and reading related books, I got to discover that it is actually okay to have fears, but not letting that fear get the best of you does the trick. Most times fear fuels our desire to win in anything we do, if and only if we are able to channel that fear into putting your all in whatever it is we want then the results would be a success. For instance, in high school I never liked mathemathematics but the fear of failing and repeating a class made me study during the examination period like it was going to be my last exam. Well not an excellent score but a B score, which means Fear Is What We Make Of It
Thanks for reading friends, have a good day.
