This past week hasn't been the best for me. I would say I woke up every day with little or zero motivation to do anything or even leave my house. Although I had symptoms similar to those who have depression, it would be disrespectful to those who have actual depression for me to tag what I had as a depressive episode.
I would say I felt overwhelmed by everything around me. What made it a bit more tiring is the fact that there is no room for taking a break and that feeling of helplessness is something that can weigh on a person. This particular feeling has lasted for sometime and I have been trying to get rid of it or better still just process it in a more healthy way.
During that time, a woman contacted me for a job. I was supposed to teach a bunch of 5 & 6 graders a few basics about crochet. I was hesitant to accept because I was not in the best frame of mind, however, crochet provides a safe place for me and is often therapeutic. So I figured it may be the best thing to do at the time.
I accepted the offer and took 2 days leave from my day job. On getting there, I felt happier than I had felt in days. There is a thing about being around a group of young minds who feel so excited to be around you and possibly learn something from you. It was quite refreshing to me.
The highlight happened on the second day after I was done teaching them. I made a few things for the girls, since they were girls and it was time to leave. I was arranging my things when I felt someone give me a hug. With her arms around my waist and her eyes looking up to me, she mouthed the words “Thank you, Miss BLessing. I hope to be like you someday ``. Then she ran off. I had tears in my eyes as I left the school premises.
It is the little things that matters, she may not realise but she helped a great deal to put things in perspective for me. It made me feel seen and appreciated and that whole encounter helped lift my spirit and gave me some reason to keep going. I went home feeling a lot better than when I left that morning and I hope to one day be able to thank her for helping me.
Thanks for stopping by❤
