It's a beautiful Monday and I'm excited to be here once more. Today I'll be sharing this dress I made for a client.
I initially made this dress for my friend and someone saw it and wanted the exact same thing, so I had to recreate it. The process pictures will be that of the client, while I'll share pictures of my friend wearing the one I made for her.
Materials
Medium weight yarn (I used 100% acrylic yarn)
4mm crochet hook
To make this gown I started by making the skirt before I added the upper part.
First I started by making the waist band. For the waistband I used 3 inches more than the actual waist measurement when stretched. I shared the process I used in making the band in this post
When I was done with the band I inserted 2 single crochet in every Hdc row on the band and did 3 regular rows before I started increasing.
For the Increase I did a total of 4 increases on every row, for the next 12 rows I made 1 increase and 1 regular row. Then I did a total of 10 regular rows, at this point the total length was about 11 inches.
Once I had 11 inches it was time to begin the decrease since it's somewhat of a pencil gown. For the decrease I did 3 per row, it's important that you spread out the decreases so it doesn't look odd. I did a total of 6 rows of decreases.
The numbers may be different depending on the yarn and tension of whoever is making it, so often when I make crochet dresses for clients, I always use measuring tape to ensure I'm within the size range of the client.
After the decrease I did a couple of regular rows then started off the mesh pattern. The mesh is a repetition of 1 double crochet, chain 1 and 1 double crochet. I just kept doing this till the total length was 25.
To know the length I was supposed to end the skirt, I did a little math. The total length was 39, since it’s an off shoulder gown I removed 6 inches which represents the shoulder, then removed another 8 inches which is the length from the breast to the waist, then I was left with 25 inches for the skirt.
After I was done with the skirt, I moved on to the upper part and inserted 2 single crochet in every hdc row of the upper band to begin the top. Then I started working with my regular hdc stitches. For the part there was no increase or decrease, just regular rows till I got the required length which was 8 inches.
All that was left was to make the hand, attached to the body, make the straps and the dress was ready.
