It’s a beautiful Saturday morning here at Conquest Comics, and I’m just about to open up the shop. I usually don’t work Saturday’s as it’s my business partner Pete’s day. But I fill in several times a year when he has other commitments. I’ve written about this before, but after 14 years…Saturdays always seem a bit foreign to me when I work em. Outside of Free Comic Book Day which is always on a Saturday (and it’s coming up..more on that soon), there’s just so much of a different feel to it compared to the clientele and crowd that comes in on my regular days.
Now that’s not a bad thing, just something I’ve picked up on over the years. In some ways it’s a ton of fun because I get to see people that ONLY come in on Saturdays. So I look forward to that. It’s usually a busy day for Pete as well, so I hope that continues. But there’s the wrench of Easter being tomorrow as well…and holidays are always a crapshoot. Either way, if it’s not terribly busy…the plan is to continue to work on the enormous back issue project.
I’m restocking from close to 800 long boxes of comics and blending that all onto the floor. One by one. Starting with Marvel, I’m still on letter A after over 2 weeks. It’s a large letter with titles like Amazing Spider-Man & Avengers. There’s a gazillion variants to check on, 1st appearances, and that’s not even considering conditions and market trends. Oof…I’ll be working on this project for years to come.
So, I’m going to start my hopefully busy day. The television is on with Back to the Future III for background noise so as to dull the sound of the heavy breathing and farts that emit from my customers. I have my lunch, @jgiambi should be in any moment…let the day begin. I’ll leave you with a few photos of our shop on this fine morning. Pardon any mess please…
