This one is a long shot that I should have popped up a few days back for y’all but I’ll give it a go anyway. Last week, DC Comics announced a recall on 2 issues that were shipping out this week...Supergirl #33 and Superman #14. Both of these issues have 2 covers each with ALL being part of the recall.
Retailers are advised to destroy the copies they received and replacement copies will he sent out at no additional cost in several weeks. Simple enough. This happens in the industry pretty regularly but this time it’s a bit different as it seems most of the shops on the east coast got their pulled by the distributor Diamond Comics, before they shipped out...mean a lot less of these made it out to the market than initially thought.
Once again, these are not supposed to be sold but instead destroyed. The reason they gave is dumb and unimportant. What is important is that hardcore collectors are going to want these. Perfect example...my lazy friend @falcore who keeps telling me he’s going to get back to posting here (riiiiiiiiiight) collects all sorts of recall books. So now these are on his list. If this happened with the title The Amazing Spider-Man-Man, I’d be scrambling myself to find a copy for my collection as I’m a stupid completist with that specific title. The point is...people want these and are willing to pay. Take a look at recent sales online.
They seem to currently be bringing in $30-$50 bucks each with sets of the 4 going around $150. Not too shabby for books that were supposed to retail for $4 bucks this week. It seems as though most of the sellers are retailers that aren’t so smart as DC has started to connect certain eBay accounts with certain shops that have blatantly disregarded their Destroy requests. Supposedly they will be dealt with accordingly. I highly doubt anything will happen though. I think west coast shops just got handed $20 dollar bills while east coast shops got nada. Dems da breaks I guess.
Oh...I got a big whopping 0 of these bad boys in my shipment. I was charged for and paid for them but got zilch.
Anyway, if you feel adventurous...go peep your local comic book store to see if they got any and are looking to break the rules. Some might even be stupid and oblivious to this as lots of shops don’t even read the emails sent forward about these things. Good luck friends!!!
