As a comic shop owner, we got to participate in this weekend’s holiday of Free Comic Book Day. It’s a fun day that at the heart of it, has shop owners pass out thousands of issues to customers in the hopes of bringing interest and awareness to all the wonderful things that our industry has to offer. This year there were 44 different titles to choose from, but the one question I had asked a gazillion times on Saturday was, “Do you have the Free Spider-Man comic?”I replied with, “sure, it’s right here” as I pointed them to the other freebie Spidey.
But that’s not what they were hunting for…Instead, everyone and their mother was looking for THIS little gem.
It seems that some comic shops received one small bundle of this promotional comic for Spider-Man 2, the video game. Not sure why and how some shops qualified while others did not, but that point has helped in making this badboy sought after. This GamerVerse promo comic is now somehow the hottest FCBD book that was actually not part of the event at all. I think because it was shipped in the same week as the event, folks just assumed it was part of it. It wasn’t sadly but if it was, I would have ordered hundreds of copies just like the actual FCBD Spidey book. We did receive one bundle of about 20 copies but we didn’t include them in Saturday’s event.
I think I’m going to tie it to a Spidey purchase or something this week. Im Still figuring it out. But some shops did give em out which has led to a small feeding frenzy on eBay and other secondary markets. These tasty morsels are fetching between $15-$30 bucks each at the moment. No wonder folks want to get their hands on this!!
So it might be in your best interest to check out your local shop to see if they have any of these mofo’s available. Good luck on your quest. If lucky enough to Snag one, I’d flip it, and buy yourself some Hive, Bitcoin, or SPS. 😉
