I’m constantly blown away with how awesome 3D printers can be. Take this stuff for example. All of these helmets were printed using a snazzy 3D printer.
I also want to state that these are not mine, but belong to one of my customers. He was sharing some of his recent work and with me finishing up this second season of The Mandalorian tonight...I figured it was a great time to just discuss this stuff as it would most likely be appreciated here.
He told me that the process is fairly simple but time consuming. He finds or purchases the files, the printer does its magic, he sands, paints, then pieces together.
I keep trying to get him to make a Boba and Mando helmet that I can pop out at the shop but no luck so far. He said the cost fir the plastic is fairly inexpensive. What hurts him in the wallet is the special fancy paint he uses. The sanding also takes hours per piece. Those are the two setbacks to pumping out more of these.
He also built that IG-88, along with Thor’s Stormbreaker hammer complete with Groot handle (not pictured) amongst other dorky collectibles and props that’ll make you drool.
As he gets better and more experienced, I’m hoping to perhaps have him make me some parts for a Mysterio costume. Anyway, just wanted to share this while Star Wars is fresh on our collective nerd minds.
