Frustrations of getting a new account!!!!

I have been trying for over a month now to get an account for my wife, using the normal Steemit process. As you may gather from this post, no success. We go through all the steps until the "this application will be reviewed" message and then.... SILENCE

Two week ago I tried again. First I got a message that the phone number was already used, a second time it would allow me to continue.
And then the same result, no account created, and if I mention Steemit to my wife she gets quite upset.

I then decided to try another approach, using the busy.org (or actually steemconnect) solution.

But, they only accept Steem or a combination of Steem and Steem Power.
Converting Steem Dollars to Steem Power. Takes 3.5 days and was not enough, I need an additional 3.2 Steem. So let's do another convert, I don't know if this will be enough, you don't know how many Steem you receive for your Steem Dollars.

This is getting f***ing frustrating, it shouldn't be this hard to have someone join Steem, should it??

I read somewhere that you can use the combination Steem+Steem Power, with delegated Steem Power? It sounds strange but if that's true can someone help me out?
