If you've ever heard this sentence in your lifetime let me see your hands up......
"Experience is the best teacher"
Oh!!! Everyone's hands are up, some are even raising their legs..,.
I get it, you've heard it a thousand times, did I just say a thousand?
Ok you've heard it a million times.
What actually is Experience?
According to wikipedia experience is the knowledge or mastery of an event or subject gained through involvement in or exposure to it.
The important words to note there are: KNOWLEDGE, SUBJECT, INVOLVEMENT AND EXPOSURE,
Oftentimes, we tend to only focus on our experience, but there is another aspect of experience we must also pay attention to; other peoples experience. If we only learn from personal experience, I strongly believe that our journey to success will be very slow and rough, one may easily give up. However, if we pay attention to and learn from other people's experience, our errors will be minimized to the bearest minimum.
It is often said that climbing on someone else's shoulder helps you see farther into the future. Consequently, when you pay attention to other people's experience and learn from it you see farther into the future. It enables you to position yourself properly in order to minimize errors and take advantage of opportunities. When confronted with a similar situation or challenge, you handle or resolve it from an experienced person's perspective.
This is not owing to the fact that you've personal experience of similar situation, but it's because you've been exposed to that situation by paying attention to someone else's experience. This is the reason mentors and role models are important figures in a man's (male and female) life.
Therefore, personal experience alone may not always be the best teacher, but personal and other people's experience are better teachers.
