Slam City Skates
The day before lockdown the roads in London are clear and I cannot resist dusting off my electric skateboard for a spin. I hadn't taken out my e-board since I fell off it last year, which resulted in serious hip bruising, but felt sufficiently confident to get back on it armed with my hip pads and helmet.
I had also bought an impact hoodie, with elbow and shoulder pads but didn't seem to think I needed it as the last time I only hurt my hip.
After a day of skating I was cruising back home when the board inexplicably cuts out on me and sends me flying forward and hitting the tarmac, hard.
Somehow I managed to pick myself up and limp home where I spent the next two weeks before I could leave the house. Only today, a month later, could I say I was mostly healed up. I had torn a hamstring bruised my hip and crushed my shoulder, I was basically an invalid so unable to even go to the local shop.
Prepped & Rekt
Luckily I had prepared for unforeseen circumstances, long before the pandemic ensued, I had an ample supply of food and essentials, mainly due to watching many doom laden youtube video's predicting all manner of catastrophe's.
My sustained injuries made the initial period of the shutdown tolerable because I couldn't go outside anyway and it also took my mind off my recently extracted tooth, which was still healing, however my dental situation is far from over.
Trouble In Paradise
Now that I have been outside a few times and started to resume normal activities I am able to soak up the atmosphere of the people and the streets of my area in London which have become more and more surreal and strange. At the moment it is pleasantly quiet and the air is fresh, which many appreciate, however I fear it may be a long hot summer of economic pain.
It will not be the only pain as another one of my teeth is nearing its final days and is becoming very sensitive. There are no dentists open as they have all been ordered to shut and only extreme emergencies can be treated, I guess i will have to wait until my head becomes a football before I get seen. My situation is mild compared to many out there suffering from disease, loneliness and depression.
Go With The Flow
The rays of light in all this drama are increased kindness from friends and neighbours, lots of funny memes and the birth of Hive to name but a few. In any extreme situation there is always the possibility for good to emerge just as there is the potential for bad vibes to permeate. As long as we can all capture some of our creative potential we could make this work somehow.
Peace
