You know how the saying goes, a picture being worth a 1000 words and yet Instagram hardly has a thesis. I bring you this photo this evening because I already turned off the light and don't plan on relighting it to take a bunch of blurry photos of my handwriting for you to torture your eyes on the jagged edges of my script.
This evening I present you a simple photo of me and the bear on a bridge. Nothing to exciting I guess. What if I told you I had just travelled from Toronto to London via Iceland in a sleepless redeye? Was navigating London with two oversized suitcases and a toddler? Had just made it out of the subway to find a road closure and a heavy police presence?
You see, we arrived in London a week after a senseless act of violence tore through this very bridge, killing pedestrians then subsequently leading to a police officer being stabbed.
We had heard about the events, but hadn't realized our arrival to the bridge was coinciding with a memorial ceremony that was about to get under way. We made our way off the bridge through the gathering crowds on the sidewalk, made it to our Airbnb and slept like logs till about midnight. As I lie awake I realized why everything was closed.
That's got to be 1000 words by now.
