Three Tune Tuesday Kate Bush Before Her Time

I'm sure you are now all familiar with Running Up a Hill rocketing to number 1 worldwide after the hit series Stranger Things played the song throughout their new season. It is a great song, one of Kate Bush's best. But I have always been intrigued by the artist. Mainly because her mother is a nurse from County Waterford in Ireland called Hannah Daly. She married an English doctor Robert Bush while working in London. They grew up in a farmhouse outside of London and they had 3 children John Paddy and Kate who was the youngest. Paddy and John were into Irish trad and Kate grew up listening to all types of music. Her parents were dead sound and encouraged Kate in everything she did. They knew when she was 13 that she was a massive talent. Her brothers used to call here ee-ee because she would sing in a really high voice. One that was unique in her own right. Below is a rare video of Kate with her parents who she was very close to. @trucklife-family talks about giving children freedom to express themselves and I think the below is an example of the power of supporting your children. At the time Kate's music was so abstract and different. It was great to have the full support of mammy and daddy who look like just a pair of great individuals. But then again most Waterford people are great folk.

I first stumbled upon Kate when I heard Wuthering Heights when I was a kid and I was pretty much blown away by it. It's one of the great songs. I always remember the video of this ghost like Kate Bush dancing like she was a "banshee." The song launched Kate Bush to fame really. Her voice is nothing like anyone has ever heard before and after I might add. She was one of a kind. I will throw up the remaster version for all yee all.

She appeared on Irish TV during Wuthering Heights fame interviewed by Irish presenter Gay Bryne.
Handy to remember that this interview took place in 1978. She comes across very well spoken and is well about for the interviewer.

Kate is pretty much out of the limelight as she was never much interested in fame. She never really understood how musicians that sold millions of albums were hounded by the press so she made sure she was well protected by it. She is a very astute business woman as well as everything else and purchased her own studio after the fame of Wuthering Heights. She does not do many performances unless a close friend asks her nicely. Dave Gilmour, the legendary guitarist from Pink Floyd actually discovered Kate Bush and helped her produce her first album. So when he calls for a charity gig Kate does answer. Here is a very rare performance from 2013 with Dave. Kate is happily married with one child born in 1998 called Bertie who would be in his 20's by now if my math's is right.

Cloudburst.

My third song I have chosen is Cloudburst. It was between that and Hounds Of Love after I discovered when the Welsh Band The Futureheads did a cover of. In fact the whole Hounds Of Love Album is a masterpiece and you should all give it a listen. But I went with Cloudburst today because I have always liked it. It does have a resemblance to Running Up a Hill actually. The sound and beat are quite similar.

So what did we learn today after Kate Bush is at Number 1 again. The oldies are normally the goodies. Rumour has it her song was on Stranger things because Winona Ryder is a massive song and she got all the younger cast into her music. When they needed a song to run the whole way through the season they all proposed this one and they producers ran with it. Not sure how true this is but I like the story so there you go.
