The Six Eyed Sand Spider (Sicarius hahni) is a medium-sized spider found in deserts and other sandy places in southern Africa.
The genus name Sicarius is Latin for 'murderer', from sica, a curved dagger. The species was named after Carl Wilhelm Hahn.
The Six Eyed Sand Spider lives in the desert. She is covered with severall small hairs, which can hold small particles of sand. This provides effective camouflage even when the spider is not buried in the sand.

Her mealplan are insects and small scorpions. The spider isn't going active hunting, she just waits for passing small animals and seize the victim with its front legs, kill it with the venom and eats it. As many animals with the habitat desert, she can live a long time without water or food.
Unlike the dangerous neurotoxic spiders like the widow-spiders, no antivenom currently exists for the bite of this spider. Fortunately, the spider is very shy and avoid any contact to humans, so there are not a lot of human envenom reported. Only two suspected ones are reported so far. However, in one of these cases, the victim lost an arm to massive necrosis and in the other, the victim died of massive haemorrhaging, similar to the effects of a Rattlesnake bite. So there are some question as to the danger posed by this spider.
