Greetings fellow musical Hivers 馃
I'm back for another amazing #ttt week and excited to see everyone's recommendation as well 馃榿 I've been learning so much ever since I joined Hive and having so much fun that I still can't quite believe it.
So, this week International Women's day was celebrated and more than a celebration, it is important that we remind ourselves what this date really stands for. Not to receive flowers and chocolates but to continue to fight towards equality and basic human rights that many women in the world don't have. For as long as women continue to die just because they are women and considered possession or objects I'm never gonna stay silent!
So for today, dear reader, I'll be pointing out some tough realities and I'll be talking about genre prejudice, women's body objetification and rape. If you find this topic a trigger for you, please don't read any further.
Three Tune Tuesday 馃幐
For those of you who don't know, Three Tune Tuesday was created by @ablaze and as he explains 馃憞
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning a prize.
With that being said, for this week I'll get back again with some female voices. As a reminder to continue the fight, to speak up to what's still wrong, to inspire other girls to find their voices, to break silence, to make a statement.
My 3 song recommendation 馃槑
1 - Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Nina Simone was the first black woman to achieve success as a singer, composer and pianist back in the sixties. Her fight also focused on human rights for black citizens.
Sadly, here in Portugal, the latest statistics show black women are more likely to suffer from Obstetric Violence and I've heard some testimonies from them when I participated in a manifestation here. It's heartbreaking.
Strange world we live in as we still pass judgement on people based on their skin colour, genitals or sexual orientation... And if we think about it, many of these prejudices are unconscious and deeply engraved.
Bear with me dear reader, as I will try to demonstrate to you how deeply genre prejudice is in a little reflection in the end.
2 - Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
So, who doesn't know Amy right? So talented, so emotional and better yet awesome tunes. I love this song in particular, but all of them are spot on in my humble opinion.
Many people see her as a drug addict, and she sadly passed away prematurely because of her addiction and illness. What many people don't know is that she was used like an object by the musical industry and producers. Making her work non-stop to the point she couldn't even enjoy life or her talent.
3 - Madonna - Hung Up
Impossible not to talk about the queen of pop music! Madonna challenged everyone and the world. She fucking owns it!
Madonna also talked about a few times of her early days in New York trying to make a successful career. She was raped. She was yet another victim of some man who thought he had the right to treat her like an object.
To reflect a little about the body objectification of women, we all know some girl friend who was at some point of her life harassed, raped or had uncomfortable situations or comments about her body right?
Now, how many of us can identify a man friend that is an abuser? Hmmm... Something to think about. And please, if you see a friend, man or woman, being innapropriate just speak up. Don't stay silent or pretend it didn't happen. If you know about a rape report it. Don't blame the victim, don't ask about what she was wearing, if she was or not in the room with the rapist...
The only guilty of the rape is THE RAPIST.
Final considerations 馃檶
That's it from me on Three Tune Tuesday week 41. And to finish this post I would like to leave here an image that I found on instagram that made me reflect quite a lot about genre prejudice.
What did you imagine? What are your thoughts on this matter? I would love to read them all so that we can discuss it, and most importantly find solutions together!
Also, I remembered this video I once found that explains very simply what consensual sex is.
That simple ahm?
See you next week 馃憢
