I keep multiple blades in my bedroom within easy reach, and when I camp, I keep multiple blades with me and one under my pillow. Yes, it's in its sheath, but it's a quick-draw sheath. Still requires me to actually, consciously, draw it because I have to undo the buckle, which takes about two seconds, but it's not something I could do in my sleep. Fortunately, only thing it's ever "saved" me from, is having cords that were too long while setting up camp. But, better safe than sorry. Here's my camp knife.
