The game sees you assume control of the club of your choice and manage the playing roster strategy tactics, transfer policies, and many other things. The game features a career mode, a fantasy draft online career, and a create a club option.

You start out creating your own manager and you can choose from a variety of options including what to wear and even the color of your clothing then you're thrown in a deep end and for the first few hours of the game are there just an admin menu feast. You have to select your club's vision meet the team choose your captain and have multiple choice meetings with the squad and the media to get your message across and this game is very heavy on menus with options for squad selection tactics, training methods, medical scouting, transfers youth team, and so much more. You know at first your brain might explode due to the volume of things you've got to consider but give it some time and you will get to grips with it. This is the most comprehensive football management game I've ever played so the menus they all add something to the experience but once you've got through the pre-season the game really does start to spice up. So, being a management game it means you don't directly control any of your players so you're relying on choosing the team getting the message to them you know watching from the sidelines and seeing how things unfold. The game engine it has a decent ebb and flows and you can watch the entire game you can watch highlights or just see the data on screen if you'd prefer you can choose the speed of the matches and the camera angles and they've even included things like var to increase the realism.

If things aren't working out you can implement live instructions and tactical changes to certain parts of the play and you can also save highlights if you've had a particularly good match so it's a hugely detailed and comprehensive management game that gets more rewarding the longer you play. However, it is very admin heavy in terms of the experience on a day-to-day basis with emails endless data statistics it might be a bit too much for people if you've got an admin job in real life but if you're a football fan and you've always wanted to take over a club it's really very comprehensive. The menus are clear and crisp but the standard font size is quite frankly ridiculously small, thankfully you can scale this in the menus up to 125% but even then some details are a little bit too small. The game engine looks fine graphically but it's not really high level however it's clear enough to see what's happening but it would have been nice if they'd have upgraded it a bit more as it does look like a PS1 game.

In terms of sound, the game doesn't really have a great deal to talk about the menus are deadly silent but that's probably a good move as you spend so much time there any music would quickly become annoying. The in-match sounds though they're okay the crowd all that kind of stuff it does the job it isn't like incredibly atmospheric but it's fine. It's the most comprehensive sports management game on the market the attention to detail in the day-to-day running of the football club is amazing. You've got a wide variety of worldwide leagues to choose from the game is incredibly addictive and it's one of the most immersive experiences in terms of recreating what it's like to run a football club. While the game isn't fully licensed the transfer system is a little bit too realistic and quite painful to get transfers over the line and it can be a bit laborious dealing with the never-ending stream of admin.

Football Manager 2020 is about as comprehensive and detailed a sports management game as I've ever thought was possible. The level of detail and the thought the developers have put into every tiny aspect of running a football club is incredible. So if you're an armchair football fan who's always fancied themselves as the next Guardiola clop or Mourinho then football manager 2020 is the perfect game for you but be warned it's very addictive and if you truly get into this game your partner might leave you and your friends and family might think you died because trust me it's that addictive but it's worth checking out for anyone who likes football, football management, strategy games.
