The next Bitcoin halving is pretty significant. Approximately every four years, the number of new bitcoins mined in a block decreases by half.

Currently, the bitcoin block reward is 12.5 BTC. Every 10 minutes, 12.5 brand new bitcoins gets added into circulation. 1,800 new bitcoins are being generated a day. These new bitcoins are often sold on the open market for fiat currency, which adds selling pressure and strain on the price. The current bitcoin inflation rate is 3.88%.

The US dollar experiences an inflation rate of 2-4% a year.

The next bitcoin halving will give bitcoin a new inflation rate of 1.80%. This is right on par with fiat currency, and will help stabilize bitcoin's price. With less newly generated bitcoins being dumped on the open market, as long as demand stays constant, bitcoin will become relatively stable. Considering most altcoins will never be used for mainstream payments, for the first time in history, people can store wealth in a wildly used currency without ridiculous inflation rates destroying savings.
