The Server game

So a few weeks ago I mentioned one of the drives on my server crapped out... for the best as we will soon find out.
If you read that post I mentioned this should be a quick fix.

It was a bit longer then expected the physical job is quick and easy, and with outdated legacy setting that is the end of it.
I did the physical pop out the drive while everything is running take screws out swap the drive with another used drive... got a friend to pick up 4 for me , I just need one but using used drives it is wise to have spears as we come to find.

But see the system is not seeing it the way I got it setup which is the right way but it makes this process less seamless.
So the server has it's own internal card that can manage the storage and support this easy hotswap.

But no biggie I just have to login to the server control ui and tell it you can use that drive, then it takes some time for data to trasfer.

the biggie is I realized that I am not running super safe here, I have a bunch of drives , but one is not part of the "family it is isolated and I used it to install the OS... lemme tell ya it was a bitch to get it setup in a way that I can have the ubuntu os see the dang drives.

And so if my OS drive get rekt not only is the server go down but I lose a bunch of shit that I was storing on the dang OS drive not using much of this family storage that has redundancy.

Anyway ya live and you learn and now I am working on a solution to insure I can avoid such a scenario, so the move is migrate the data to the safe family storage on the multiple drives with redundancy shrinking the OS drive then I can be making backups of it and then I can just clone on another drive if that one fails, I am just tapped out with slots for drives on the server so I would need to put more storage inside buying another card to read it, or booting from a USB having the backup on the Family storage and then I can replace the drive and have some software on the USB copy the backup we making in the family storage and copy it to the new drive and then I would be set, anyway still figuring that last bit out
