Alright folks in this one I am going to get into something that is pretty interesting and maybe ironic, so there is a new game that is going a bit viral on social media, it is called Scam With Your Friends.

An image I generated with AI

It's a game where you are a scammer in a call center and you need to scam people, what makes this game special or interesting is that you have to talk to the potential victims with your voice and they respond, from watching some videos of folks playing it seems like a neat game.

But is the game about scamming a scam ? 🤣
Maybe so but even if it's not a "scam" this is something good to consider.
So how they game works is they use AI to generate the responses, right now this game is in early access ,and for only 10 dollars you can have unlimited fun!

Or can you ? Well this is where things get a little tricky, you are paying a one time fee but every time you play the game you are incurring the dev AI usage costs, they may be small but they can add up and with enough time playing the dev will end up taking a loss.

So what does that all mean ? Well just to clarify I am not trying to call out the dev or call it a scam but the enviroment is ripe for this kind of abuse that would be considered legal and not violate any terms of steam (the platform/game store that host this game and many others).

So lets just pretend the dev has no malintent, this is not a sustainable model, either he would have to shut it down eventually or introduce some sort of usage credits, the latter could be reasonable but transparency about this possibility needs to be out there from the start.

But here is the thing with the current landscape someone else can make a similar game with the same model get a bunch of customer sales some folks play for a while then you just shut down the AI element and there is no legal recourse there is not violation of steam terms and the customers do not get their money back.

Again not calling this game a scam but it would be pretty ironic, I am more so brining attention to the current state of things and how bad actors can pull some sneaky moves without any legal repercussions
