The idea of getting my kids on the blockchain was with me for a while, If you don't know what I mean I will explain, Some of you may say well I see the picture in this post are they not on the blockchain already? Well not quite the images are actually hosted by a 3rd party and our hive blogs don't actually contain the images .
We can only upload text based data to the hive blockchain, but I figured data is data, let me open up an images as a text file and then I will upload that text to hive, then that text can be copied to a text file and renamed to an image file and that's that.
unfortunately it wasn't quite that simple I tried to figure out how to do this with AI and googling but no luck I ended up asking a developer friend and he had a solution for me in no time.
How its done
Right below i will share the process and then i will share a link to another blog post that will contain the image as text.
In order to make this happen we are going to encode our image into base64 this can be done with command line but I figure i will share an easier method.
This website here features an image to base64 encoder and base64 to image decoder.
We encode our image, copy all of that text into a blog post and hit publish, congratulations! You just put an image onto the hive blockchain, if you want to convert the text back into an image we can decode the base64 text back into an image.
Note this is not an NFT however this type of process can be used to store the images for NFTs right on the hive blockchain!

You can see it by copying the text into the decoder I shared above.
I had to make it very low resolution to get around the character limit on the blogs but this is more so a proof of concept and there are more elagent ways to add this data to the blockchain.
