I been in the AI space for a while now, I started out with cloud models like most people, and I still use them to this day, but since getting started I stepped up my local game but that is not what this post is about.

I remember the good old days with a bunch of usage from cloud AI providers a lot of it totally free, most people use AI in their browser just talking to the model, but the next power user step-up is using a CLI AI agent , that is basically letting the agent run directly in an environment where it can do real work, so for example you can go to a web based AI ask it to make you an app, game , tool, website or wtv it leaves you having to do work in setting it up but in the CLI the agent can just take the steps needed right on the computer.
This makes vibe coding very powerful, you can build all sort of stuff and lots of people and companies did and still do, but here is where the bait and switch comes in.
Users and companies end up relying on these cloud models, if there is an issue, or you are looking to add features, you are trapped, that is sort of the entire scheme they get people using the AI for free or for very cheap, then folks end up relying on these tools and then the company starts to reduce the offering and or raise prices.
They do all sort of thing like say their latest model are so powerful and dangerous but for the most part that is all BS to get folks using their product , some people will hear this "news" and start thinking maybe this AI can help bring my big idea to life.
And the reality is that in most cases it probably can but how much it ends up costing and after all that is it worth while, that is another story.
Hey take it from me I been paying for a google sub for a while, and nowadays I run out of usage and they tell me come back in 5 hours or even that is all for the week bud... I tried other providers and it is more of the same thing.
I think it's not really cool and some trickery, offering a sweet deal is fine for getting more people in the door but I think there needs to be more clarity, like hey customers we are taking an L with these prices but we hope you give us a go type deal.
I am not saying Cloud AI bad Local is good the cloud providers just did some shady moves but what is new, and with local unfortunately especially with how these prices for hardware are looking most the time paying for a cloud API can be the better deal then running local, but I don't really do it for the saving , I do it for freedom as in I can do wtv I want with my local models, and also I just really like building and making stuff, and until AI never had the ability to build the things I do today.
