What Is It?

Siacoin is an ICO (initial coin offering) of the firm Sia, an entity focused on a decentralized cloud storage. Sia aims to give Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and other large cloud storage firms a run for their money. A bold claim, but if bitcoin will take on larger opponents like central banks, we can only welcome for any more decentralization. Siacoin is traded in the exchanges Yunbi, and of course Poloniex.

Is it Viable?

Since siacoin has a more sensible foundation and a larger-than-life mission, I think that it could have a good future ahead. Certainly having a decentralized means of sending, encrypting, and storing data is essential in the world caged with the invasive big brother in it, and overtime, distraught individuals will value such refuge from the all-seeing eye more and more.

It is striking that some cryptocurrencies are somewhat linked to each other. Why that occurred I'm not sure, and would leave it up to the pros. It's hard to predict another May 17, but the logical approach is to wait for a big announcement. They're active on twitter: https://twitter.com/SiaTechHQ

In my opinion, siacoin would have a long term growth given its sound foundation and an interesting vision, and the 3 month graph shows a slow but steady higher highs.
