Happy first Sunday of the month to you in this great community @diyhub I hope you are all doing good and having a fun filled day, it it my pleasure to share with you in this community today the making of this simple and beautiful gown outfit I made for myself and others for the child dedication service of one of our friends in church as we friends and family put on same cultural outfit.
We usually come together to celebrate one another during wedding, birthday, child dedication and even burial of an aged person in our community and in doing this, a particular fabric is choosing either by friends or family members to celebrate the occasion, this is what we did on this first Sunday of the month for one of our own who gave birth to a baby girl and brought her to church for dedication. We bought this beautiful fabric and I made a simple outfit for myself and some of my friends.
I was able to buy 3yards of the fabric for myself and I made this simple gown. It was folded in two with the hip circumference measurements divide by 4 plus 2" for seam allowance and extra 5" was added for fullness at the hem.
I placed the front part that was cut out on another folded fabric to cut out the back with zipper allowance of 1.5"
I paced the front and back on a black lining to cut out same shape which was sewn on the wrong size and turned to the right side.
The remaining fabric was used to cut out the upper bodice of the half length, using the upper bodice measurements, I drafted out a shoulder dart pattern and it was cut out on the main fabric.
For the back, I cut out a basic back bodice with lining using the upper bodice measurements and 1.5" zipper allowance.
The upper bodice were sewn together with the lining after which I sew the upper bodice to the lower part of the gown to make a full length gown. Just to add a touch of design to the gown, I sew a black bias tape to trace the dart leg from the shoulder line down to the full length.
Since I have almost exhausted the fabric, I decided to make a basic sleeves to minimize my remaining fabric, I used my sleeve measurements to cut out 3¾ sleeves and it was sewn to the armhole circumference
This is the final and beautiful outcome of our outfit made for our friend's child dedication service in church.
