I realised now that I have not even introduced myself.
What is the meaning of my nickname "Bierpens"? It is simple. "Bierpens" is the Afrikaans word for "Beer Belly".
I have been overweight since high school, and later on in life my nickname became Bierpens. It was not only drinking beer that caused me to gain a lot of weight, I also indulged in carbohydrates like chips, bread, potatoes, rice and so on.
The irony is that these days I am no longer overweight, but the nickname has stuck.
I lost all my excess weight thanks to banting. I love low carb and I like a good braai (BBQ). I am not drinking any alcohol.
I also realised that an almost sure way to die prematurely, is to be a heavy smoker while being overweight. I have lost the fat, and started vaping. My ultimate goal is to neither smoke nor vape. To be free from the damn nicotine monster.
I am married. I have a lovely and supporting wife, and we do not have any children.
Despite all the problems in South Africa like corruption and load shedding and crime, I love living in South Africa.
