Dates are a very tasty and well-known fruit. Dates have so much tasty and nutritional value that an adult can survive on just 15 dates a day.

There are about one thousand species of date palm trees in the world. However, only 20 species of dates are produced commercially. Two-thirds of the world's dates come from the Middle East alone. Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan are the top producers of dates.

Dates contain vitamins, fiber, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc. Every 30 grams of dates contains 90 calories, one gram of protein, 13 milligrams of calcium, 2.6 fiber, and many other nutrients. Dates are a good source of energy. Dates provide about 11 percent of the iron requirement of a healthy person.

Date palms grow in arid climates. Rain and moisture palm trees can not tolerate at all. However, this tree is so salt-tolerant that it can be irrigated with seawater. A date palm is usually up to 40 feet tall. However, it can sometimes grow up to 75 feet. One of the differences between date palm and all other fruit trees is that its yield increases with age. Only 3% of all the cultivable land in the world is under date cultivation. And about 4 million tons of dates are produced in the world every year.

Eating dates increases sexual ability. Dates contain estradiol and flavonoids. Their levels are much higher in dates, which increases the number of sperm. It also enhances sexual vitality. This is why dates have been used to increase sexual potency for centuries.

In Egyptian hieroglyphics, the year was represented by palm-tree pictures. The reason for this is that in a year twelve twigs grow on a date tree. The people of Mesopotamian civilization considered dates to be aphrodisiac fruits. Ancient Egyptians used to make a kind of wine from dates. Fossil records show that there were date palms on Earth about 50 million years ago. There are examples of formal cultivation of dates from about 6,000 BC.

Ripe date syrup is used as an alternative to sugar. A variety of sweet drinks including yogurt, cheese, ice cream are made with date syrup. Different cosmetics are produced from date beech, notably soap and eyeliner. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan sweet juice is extracted by cutting the stems of date palm trees. Which is known as date juice.
