I will be going down the memory lane on this post. I graduated from secondary school in 2010 where I was the best science student. It happened that I graduated as the best science student in my class. I thought after this, I would get admission into the university with the kind of brain I had. I mean I was sound up there.

I wrote exams to get into university immediately after graduating. I was applying to study petroleum engineering in Federal University of Petroleum resources Effurun. I read for this exam, travelled many miles to write this exam.

I prepared and I was confident in my knowledge (I mean the confidence of a best science student). On getting to the exam hall, I sat down waiting eagerly to devour the paper. I prayed before the papers arrived (before it will be like I am not humble). You know pride goes before a fall.
The papers were given to us and you won’t believe it. The exam was actually simple. So I rushed the exam like a bowl of ice cream. The exam was for one hour and thirty minutes. I finished my exams in thirty minutes feeling like Arya stark after killing the night king. I killed the exam. What do I do with the remaining one hour? So the guy beside me saw I was done. He was so thrilled feeling like this guy must be so intelligent.
The young man started cross checking his work with mine. I was confidently telling him reasons why his answers were wrong. My guy photocopied all I did.
I got home that day and my mom asked me how the exam went. I gave her the best response after killing the exam. My mom made me the best soup I have tasted in my life. I ate it like a king and asked for another serving.

Rewind to two weeks before the exam.

My mother happened to know the admission officer of the university. So he told my mum that “make sure he gets at least 20%”. This meant automatic admission for me if I got 20%. My mom told me what he said and I told her not to worry that I will pass 50%. Twenty percent was the cut off for the least course to be studied in the university by the way.

Fast forward to two weeks after the exams

I told my mother to go and check the result. I was expecting 70% and above. My mother came back home after checking the result. My mother came back and did not talk to me. I called my new friend who I helped in the hall. He didn’t pick too. The next day she told me I scored 9 out of 50 questions. My chest!!

How do you think my mother reacted?
How do you think I reacted?
How do you think my friend reacted ?

Thank you for reading. If you want to know the answer to the above questions, read my next post.
Lets engage a little…
How would your mother have reacted? How would you have reacted?
