Turns out comfrey is much more picky where to grow and needs much more pampering that similar, native, deep rooted plants that also produce plenty of biomass without the constant need for water and care! Like burdock, dock, chicory, dandelion, etc.
Still, lovely flowers and the bees seem to enjoy them as well!
