While reading the publication of the friend @iriswrite I felt identified in two ways, in the first one because I am used to celebrate my birthday two days, since I was born on February 29 and therefore every year there are people who congratulate me on February 28 because it is the last day of the month and others on March 1, in the case of my family I have always been congratulated and celebrated on March 1. That’s my day!
Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog
The other part is in the name, because someone came up with the idea of calling me Beysy. I really don’t know where the name came from, and my mom is not even sure, because every time I ask her she answers that where she lived she had many teenage girls as neighbors, and when she was pregnant with my sister they helped her to find a name for the baby, that’s how Berlis was born. When in less than a year my mom got pregnant with me again (my sister is older by 11 months) the same neighbors helped her look for a name that matched Berlis and that’s how Beysy was born. Funny, isn’t it?
But, it turns out that this happened after my mom brought me home from the hospital, because on the discharge slip she had named me Marlene (if it’s prettier Beysy), I don’t know why that name was given to me either. My dad wanted to name me Beatriz Adriana after a Mexican singer he liked a lot (that would have had more meaning). The thing is that my dad went to register me, I don’t know if he had the name written on a piece of paper or the registrar wanted to put two Y’s, but he came home with a girl named Beysy Adriana (he got his way and at least he named me Adriana after the singer).
Everything was fine in that first birth certificate that I still have is written Beysy, but when I went to graduate from college and we sent for a new birth certificate, it turned out that it arrived with the name written incorrectly, Beisy. My mother assumed that the registry had made a mistake and since it was in another state of the country it was difficult to move to correct it, so at the university they did all the paperwork with the birth certificate from when I graduated from high school and the same thing happened when I did my post graduate studies.
This legal situation with my name is a procedure that I must do but I have put it off for a long time, at first I was told that I had to pay a lawyer to change it, but other people say no, because the paper they gave my dad that day at the registry is well written, as well as the birth certificate (I have those documents to prove it); something happened in all these years and that is a mistake for which I should not pay. I have to go to the capital of the country (I was born there) and go to the registry to make sure and talk to the registrar to find out what I can do. The thing is that I have to change my name there, because all my legal documents (cedula, university degrees, birth certificates of my children) have my name written Beysy, so it should be easier to change the name in the registry book than to change the rest.
This mistake, although it is important that I solve it, because I hope to receive a new university degree soon, is not something that I consider that has changed my life, but it gave me a new vision regarding the names we give to our children, I have only heard this problem from people who have a name difficult to write or with letters where they should not go, as in the case of Beysy, personally I think it has many Y. Continuing with the idea, I learned that a person with a normal and easy to write name does not have this problem, for this reason when I was pregnant I told my husband that my son’s name was not going to have the letter Y, nor the H in the middle of the name, nor combinations of names (mom-dad), none of the madness I have seen for years; I wanted a normal name, José, Pedro, Juan, or whatever, but that everyone knew how to write it, so we chose Andrés and then with the girl I did not go far away and we named her Andrea.
This has been my participation in the initiative #6 of Las cosas de Iris. I told them the story with my name and what I had to live through, I imagine that many other people have similar problems with their names and will also have learned something from their experience as I did.
