Working with kids involves patience, love and care because at times it is difficult getting them to communicate as you would want them to or even to understand what you want them to understand, imagine performing a visual acuity test on a child who has difficulties reading the letters of the alphabets, naturally this child would not be able to tell you that the letter you are pointing at is A or B or C, thus there is a communication barrier, irrespective of this you still have to get the measure of the visual acuity down though so what would you do?
You use the tumbling E letter chart, the child doesn’t need to know the letters of the alphabet before he or she can tell you the direction of the legs of E when they are turned in different directions. That is the beauty of scientific innovations, they say the necessity in the mother of invention. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.
To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.
To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks
To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.
To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.
