Hey internet people. How's it going? Today I'm here to tell you that on Saturday I finally went to see the Michael Jackson movie 馃 馃槂 and honestly, it not only met my expectations, but it far exceeded them.
Hola, gente de internet. 驴Todo bien? Hoy vengo a contarles que el s谩bado fui a ver la pel铆cula de Michael Jackson POR FIN 馃 馃槂 y la verdad es que no solo estuvo a la alturas de mis expectativas, sino que las super贸 con creces.
First of all, it was complete chaos because I booked the tickets through the cinema's app and had to pay with mobile payment (an electronic payment method in Venezuela), but when I tried to register the payment in the app, it wouldn't register. So I was stressed out, writing on all the cinema company's platforms until I had a lightbulb moment and registered the payment through the website instead of the app, and then I was able to do it (just a tip in case this happens to you).
En primero lugar fue todo un caos porque reserv茅 las entradas por la aplicaci贸n del cine y deb铆a hacer el pago con pago m贸vil (un m茅todo de pago electr贸nico en Venezuela) pero al momento de registrar el pago en la app, no lo quer铆a registrar, as铆 que ya estaba estresada escribiendo en todas las plataformas de la compa帽铆a de cine hasta que se me prendi贸 el foco de las ideas y registr茅 el pago por la p谩g y no por la app, y entonces pude hacerlo (un dato por si les llegase a pasar esto)
I think that rather than talking about photography or aesthetics, characteristics that define audiovisuals, on this occasion I prefer to focus on the story and the characterization and acting work, which for me was truly remarkable and impressive 馃
Creo que m谩s que hablar de fotograf铆a o est茅tica, caracter铆sticas que definen los audiovisuales, en esta ocasi贸n prefiero irme por la historia y el trabajo de caracterizaci贸n y actuaciones que fue lo que para m铆 fue realmente destacable e impresionante 馃
I'll start by talking about the performances: everyone did an excellent job, however, I must highlight three actors in particular: Colman Domingo, who played Joseph Jackson; Juliano Krue Valdi, who played young Michael; and finally, Jaafar Jackson, who played his uncle as an adult. I think Jaafar (once in character) not only resembled him physically, but also in his demeanor. The camera angles in the scenes with Michael were very well placed, as they helped frame the panic and claustrophobia Michael felt towards his father, how he would back away when his father approached him, or how he would seek refuge in something to gain strength and not be so obvious when showing his fear.
Empezar茅 hablando de las actuaciones: todos hicieron un excelente trabajo sin embargo debo destacar a tres actores en especial: el caso del actor Colman Domingo, quien interpret贸 a Joseph Jackson, a Juliano Krue Valdi, quien interpret贸 a Michael ni帽o, y por 煤ltimo a Jaafar Jackson, quien interpret贸 a su t铆o de adulto. Creo que Jaafar (una vez caracterizado) no solo se parec铆a f铆sicamente, sino que tambi茅n en la actitud, los 谩ngulos de c谩mara en las escenas que ten铆a el film con Michael estaban muy bien puestas ya que ayudaban a enmarcar esa relaci贸n de p谩nico y claustrofobia que sent铆a Michael referente a su padre, como se echaba atr谩s cuando est茅 se le acercaba, o buscaba reafirmarse a algo para obtener fuerza y no ser tan evidente a la hora de mostrar miedo.
The actor was imposing; his stage presence was truly unsettling, generating that sense of danger or constant alertness that Michael most likely felt in front of his father, which is admirable in the actor since he managed to convey everything he needed to.
El actor impon铆a, realmente su puesta en escena daba incomodidad generaba esa sensaci贸n de peligro o de alerta permanente que muy probablemente sent铆a Michael frente a su padre lo que es digno de admiraci贸n en el actor ya que logr贸 transmitir todo lo que deb铆a
Juliano Krue Valdi is definitely a mini-Michael, and what's most surprising about the original Michael is that he was explosive on stage from a young age. For a small child to captivate even adults is an admirable feat, so in my opinion, the fact that a child actor can replicate exactly what characterized that young Michael is astonishing. The boy expresses himself just as Michael did back then: explosive on stage but withdrawn and fearful offstage.
Juliano Krue Valdi es definitivamente un mini Michael, y es que lo que m谩s sorprende del Michael original, es que desde peque帽o era explosivo en el escenario, y para un ni帽o peque帽o lograr cautivar incluso a adultos es una haza帽a admirable, as铆 que en mi opini贸n, el que un ni帽o actor pueda replicar exactamente eso que caracterizaba a ese peque帽o Michael es sorprendente. El ni帽o se expresa tal cual lo hacia Michael en esa 茅poca, una explosi贸n en el escenario pero retra铆do y temeroso fuera de 茅l
It also has some pretty intense scenes, like those depicting abuse, and I think it does an excellent job of conveying everything a child in those circumstances can feel.
Adem谩s tiene escenas bastante fuertes como las de maltrato, y creo que hace un excelente trabajo transmitiendo todo lo que un ni帽o en esas condiciones puede sentir
Jaafar Jackson, wow! What can I say? He's truly an excellent actor, and I think growing up watching his uncle's work his whole life must have helped him a lot in refining the character. There was a lot of debate about whether he resembled him or not, but regardless... Watching him in the film was like seeing Michael: the tone of his voice when speaking or singing a cappella, his gaze, his expressions, not only when singing and dancing but in his everyday life, his submissive and shy way of moving, and his explosive power on stage... I think he gathered, developed, and ultimately projected all of that perfectly.
Jaafar Jackson 隆Wow! 驴Qu茅 puedo decir? La verdad es que es un excelente actor y creo que haber crecido mirando el trabajo de su t铆o toda su vida tiene que haberle ayudado mucho a pulir el personaje. Hubo mucho debate si se parec铆a o no pero independientemente... Verlo en la pel铆cula era ver a Michael, el tono de su voz al hablar o cantar a capella, su mirada, sus expresiones, no solo al cantar y bailar sino en su d铆a a d铆a, su forma sumisa y t铆mida de moverse, y la fuerza explosiva en el escenario... Creo que recopil贸, desarrollo y finalmente proyect贸 todo eso a la perfecci贸n.
The repertoire of songs they used for the film is wonderful; my sister and I couldn't stop singing along, especially to "I'll Be There" and "ABC" by the Jackson Five, but also Michael's "Thriller," "Billie Jean," and "Bad." I also appreciated that the film didn't dwell on all the controversy surrounding Michael after 1993, but instead focused directly on showing who he was and how he reached the pinnacle of success, as well as revealing his more human side as a philanthropist, his need for affection as a person, and his longing for his lost childhood, beyond the pop superstar persona. The film shows us the excellent human being he was: resilient, empathetic, noble, and loving.
El repertorio de canciones que utilizaron para el film es maravilloso, mi hermana y yo no dej谩bamos de cantar, en especial I'll be There y ABC de los Jackson's Five, pero tambi茅n Thriller, Billie Jean y Bad de Michael. Tambi茅n me gust贸 que no se ahondara en todo ese tema de la pol茅mica que el pobre Michael vivi贸 despu茅s de 1993, sino que el film se enfoc贸 directamente en mostrar qui茅n era 茅l y como lleg贸 a la c煤spide del 茅xito, adem谩s de mostrar su lado m谩s humano como fil谩ntropo, sus necesidades de afecto como persona y su a帽oranza por la ni帽ez perdida, m谩s all谩 de la super estrella de pop. La pel铆cula nos muestra el excelente ser humano que era: resiliente, emp谩tico, noble y amoroso.
