Good day, everyone. You are welcome to my blog today.
There are some stories that we carry quietly, not because they are too big, but because they are secrets that are too personal to be explained without the risk of being misunderstood.
I knew this guy who always showed up as the strong one, never down whenever we had issues among our friend group. He was the one who would encourage us, and we never saw him break down. The friend who everyone called when things were falling apart. He always gave us advice, lent money, cracked jokes - never looking like he needed saving. But nobody knew that every night he would sit down and relive his failures - how his relationships collapsed, his business struggles, how he's trying to create a perfect life, trying to meet family expectations that he could not meet. Not because people would not listen, but because he had already built this wall where he felt trapped and he couldn't express himself to others how he felt.
And then we have this girl, Amina, in my class, who everyone thought had it easy. She was always smiling, dressed well, surrounded by friends. But one random afternoon, I found her sitting alone behind the building, just staring - no phone, no music, just living with the silence. I found out that she was dealing with her mom's health at home and their family was on the verge of falling apart. But to everyone else, she looked fine, and that's because she made it her life's business to make everybody else feel fine.
The truth is that this kind of story always lives inside families. Sometimes there's an aunt or uncle that nobody talks about, they sacrificed for their siblings so that the others could succeed. It could be the first daughter who had to sacrifice her education and do everything humanly possible to ensure her younger siblings received proper education. And at the end of the day, this quiet resentment settles in, built over time when appreciation never comes. These stories do not make it to conversations because they are complicated and very deep. They do not have clear endings; they are just there, sitting in the middle.
A lot of people carry far more than what they show. Not everything is meant for public display, and in that era of my life, sometimes every silence means peace. Sometimes, silence is just someone choosing not to break down in front of others but to act happy and see if it helps.
Maybe some stories remain unshared, not because they don't matter, but because they matter so much. I recently watched a movie named "The Monica", where a young lady, the first daughter of the family, had to carry all the burdens of the family. And at the end of the day, she found it hard to do anything reasonable for herself. Some stories are too good to be true. At the end of the day she was able to succeed and make a life for herself - but not all stories turn out this way. Some end with being mocked by family for the sacrifices they've made, and at the end of the day, we all carry these secrets to our grave.
