However, not everyone I showed kindness to paid back the same way. Some believed being smart outshined the good ones. Out of the guys I accommodated, some believed they were smarter. Even when I was broke because I was out of funds while we ate together, instead of sharing what they had, they preferred to go out and eat alone while we were home starving. Even though I knew, I didn't see the need to confront him—everyone wasn't as mature as I was, and that was expected.
So kindness doesn't often come in two ways. Sometimes we do not get it in return. If we have to give gifts or show kindness to people in return for a favor, then we are no different from people in the world who love doesn't dwell in. It's okay if we get it in return, but we shouldn't be so self-centered as to render help expecting certain benefits for our deeds. Love seeks the good of another, not selfishness.And since then, I don't just act all out to help you.
Even if you look sincere, sound honest, and all, I will still question you and, to some extent, do some background checks too. One thing I've always said and stand with is that no one has the ability to change the good person that I am. I mean, no one would be able to turn me from being a good/kind person to a bitter one, only if I chose to. But thinking about it, I also feel it's all those series of experiences and all that would later add up together to change you and make you be more careful with helping.
It is very good to help, but the Bible at a place said, "Wisdom is profitable to direct." At another place it said, "In all your getting, get wisdom." What I'm trying to say in essence is that we need wisdom to navigate helping and showing kindness to people. I don't have a well-perfected way of seeing people for who they really are. But I try my best to not rush into helping; I only do when I have adequate info about it. Also, most of the time I feel it's okay to handle the problem directly instead of handing over money.
