Today, we are back to keep on the progress of this project. It's time to prepare the nut and glue that bridge!

On the previous entry, we prepared the saddle as we were working on the bridge. The only piece missing is the nut. This one divides the fretboard from the head stock. It is also the place that gives us part of the spacing between strings.
We start with a small piece of wood that gets reduce to the width necessary to fit in the space mentioned above. Once this is done, through sanding mostly, we go ahead and mark its height and the placing of for some slots. The latter will be the ones holding the strings in place as they come up towards the tuning machines.
Once we open the slots, we can go ahead and shape the nut as we prefer. In this case, we made some carving between the strings' slot to add some texture to the work
Placing the Bridge

The dose of adrenaline came twice in the same month as this instrument was finished alongside the previous one I had shown. So, the steps are simple. After applying oil and sanding to the bridge, we can finally start with the placing. First, we hold it on the sound board with tape and drill two holes that will serve as anchoring places. Then, we use am exacto knife to mark the perimeter of the bridge. This will help us remove the finish from this exact place and have the naked wood in the glue up process.
Third, we use some toothpicks as anchors on the wholes of the bridge. This makes it easier to hold the piece in place and are really easy to cut afterwards. Fourth, we sand on the area to make the surface rough and have the bridge ready for a proper glue up.

To finish the work for this time, we can apply the glue and hold the bridge in place with the U clamp. We use a strip of wood and some wedged to hold the whole bridge against the sound board and have an even amount of pressure over the surface of the bridge. This ensures we have a good glue up.
After doing this, it is only a matter of time before going on to place the tuning machines and strings. But before that, we need to clean any glue that might've spread over the pressure on the bridge. And also, wait a whole day before removing the clamps. Add to that a total 48 hours before placing the strings and tuning.

En la publicación anterior, aprovechamos que estábamos trabajando el puente para hacer la cejilla. La pieza que faltaba era la cejuela. Esta sirve de frontera entre el diapasón y el clavijero. Además, aquí es otro de los puntos donde se marca la separación entre las cuerdas.
Comenzamos con una pieza de madera pequeña y reducimos su grosor hasta que encaje en el lugar mencionado. Todas las reducciones de altura y grosor se hacen con lija. Después de haber logrado ambas, marcamos el sitio para cada uno de los cortes que nos darán las ranuras para las cuerdas. Esto útlimo no solo separa las cuerdas, pero las mantiene en su lugar mientras estas suben hacia las clavijas.
Con las ranuras listas, podemos darle más forma a la cejuela. En este caso, hicimos unos adornos entre cada ranura para darle un elemento de textura al trabajo.
Colocando el Puente

Esta dosis de adrenalina vino por partida doble en el mismo mes. Este instrumento se terminó a la par del que había mostrado hace unas semanas. Estos pasos son simples. Primer, fijamos el puente sobre la tapa armónica con cinta de enmascarar. Segundo, abrimos unos hoyos a través del puente y la tapa. Estos nos sirven como puntos de anclaje. Después, hacemos unos cortes por todo el perímetro del puente con la ayuda de un bisturí. Esto es para poder remover la laca solo en la zona donde vamos a colocar el puente. De esta manera, pegaremos el puente sobre la madera desnuda.
El tercer paso es colocar unos palillos de dientes en los hoyos del puente. Estos serán las anclas, a parte que son fáciles de cortar después de ubicarlos. Cuarto, lijamos la zona descubierta para hacer más áspera la superficie y que el puente se pegue bien.

Para terminar con el trabajo en esta ocasión, aplicamos pegamento y presionamos el puente sobre la tapa con esta prensa. Nos ayudamos de un listón de madera y unas cuñas para distribuir la presión sobre toda la superficie del puente y lograr un pegado parejo.
Después de hacer esto, solo es cuestión de esperar para poder colocar las cuerdas y clavijas. Antes de eso, hay que limpiar todo el pegamento que se haya extendido fuera de la zona del puente debido a presión. Además, esta prensa quedará en su lugar por 24 horas. Se le añaden otras 24 horas de espera antes de poder afinar el instrumento.
