This is my entry for the #monomad challenge by @monochromes.
I've been finishing some projects after I had the chance to vist my teacher's workshop. There's still a lot to do around here. One instrument went on its merry way. 6 are still unfinished. But everyday having this much work it's awesome. It keeps me focused on goals. Besides, having more instruments to choose makes for a good chance of selling more. As musicians are finicky people like artists in general.
This is some tough work. Placing bindings and purflings is an aesthetic choice. They don't perform any function on the instrument. However, having the combinations of colours of even a herringbone or mosaic on the borders is a display of skills. So it's a nice touch for any instrument that isn't entry level.
Placing them and have them glue properly requires firm pressure. Too much on then and the pieces will move from place and the results would be a disaster. I'm using this bike's inner tube to apply pressure on both purflings and bindings. We work one side a time. Once the strips are placed and we apply some masking tape, the inner tube goes around the instrument. It's like a snake coiling around the prey before squeezing it. Except there's no squeezing here.
I think there's one beauty on taking pictures of my work in black and white. It takes away the colour of wood, but the texture is different. The filters are such a good help for it. But there's a lot of light in some of the photos and it's hard to decide which filter works best.
Anyways, here are more photos of the process. I need to get a tripod for better and more shooting. That way I could even show more of the process. But there's still so much I need to buy. Maybe after 20 instruments have been sold I could focus more on image. That remains to be seen.
