That's a cool photo, but let me tell you the truth. It isn't easy to hold an instrument this way and take a photo. But it was worth it!
It's that time again when I'm rounding the neck of an instrument. This is always a sign of arriving to the end of the trail. With the frets on, the instrument is almost ready. As I round this neck. I'm setting my sights on the sanding marathon ahead. However, let's take a look at the process and how the round shape comes out of a flat and squared surface.
Aunque esta foto se ve genial, déjenme decirles que sostener el instrumento así es todo un trabajo. Peor cuando tienes que enfocar y tomar la foto. ¡Pero valió la pena!
Vuelve a llegar la hora de redondear el mástil del instrumento. Esta es una de las señales de que el proceso está llegando a su final. Estamos casi listos. Los trastes y demás están en su lugar. Ya me estoy preparando para el maratón de lijado que se viene. Sin embargo, estamos aquí para echarle un vistazo a este proceso.
Here's the lowest and tallest points of the beck. The former goes near the head; the latter, towards the body. There's thousands of ways of doing this. I wish I had a spokeshave, but I do almost all the process with a rasp. Oh, yeah, and a lot of elbow grease.
Aquí estamos marcando cuales es el punto más alto y el más bajo del mástil. El primer es el que va hacia la caja del instrumento; el segundo, hacia el clavijero. Hay muchas maneras de abordar esto. Desearía tener uno de estos cepillos especiales, pero por ahora solo cuento con una escorfina (o lima dentada) para hacer el trabajo. Ah, eso y un montón de esfuerzo.
It becomes a game of making corners. First, eat the ones you have. You end up with four corners. Then, 8. It goes on until you eliminate all of them and have a round shape. I tried to make a video but half of it became corrupted. It is a shame. Half of it is good and might be useful for something. Anyways, the idea with the having the differences in height is to make a slope on the neck.

Todo se trata de hacer esquinas. Primero, eliminamos las dos primeras que tenemos. Esto crea cuatro. Después, 8. Se sigue así hasta que se eliminan todas y la pieza se vuelve redonda. Intenté hacer un video sobre este proceso, pero la mitad se dañó por alguna razón. Es una lástima. Pero la mitad que todavía está intacta podría servir para algo. De cualquier manera, la idea de tener alturas diferentes es hacer una pendiente en el mástil.
En la última foto de este grupo, podemos ver una superficie lisa gracias a el uso de nuestra rasqueta.
And after a lot of filing and scraping we achieve the results: a rounded neck. It is all set set for being comfortable and having a strong structure. Even though the video wasn't a complete possibility, it gave me the angle for the photos. I took most of them while recording. So there's my silver lining on the experience. Stay tuned. Next time, we might have already started with the finishing on this one.

Después de limar y raspar por un buen rato, obtuvimos el resultado deseado: un mástil redondeado. Ahora es más cómodo y no se pierde nada de integridad estructural. Aunque hacer el vídeo ya no sea una posibilidad, el ángulo de la cámara me permitió tomar estas. Así que no todo fue pérdida. ¡Manténganse atentos! La próxima vez que veamos a este ejemplar, ya estaremos cerca completar con su acabado.
