Designer are like magicians. From learning to use AutoCAD to a basic level it's easy to get why getting something as simple as a Logo has its price. There's tons of thinking behind a good idea. Even when the results are not the flashiest, you might be surprised by how a Designer came up with the idea. Of course, not every one is the best there is at what they do (that's a comic book pun)! But as the rest of people trying to make a living out of their knowledge and skills, Designers do wonders for the ideas of their clients.
Follow up with this, a lot of things about making a better logo came up. I kept here left and right about having a professional design your logo and it made sense. Previously, I used Canva, but the fact remains that those designs, though good, are used by everyone. So there's lots of repetition everywhere.
So, after more thought and using some of the Power Down money I got for more than legal stuff, tools, and supplies, I went and got the number from a friend to see what we could do about the image of the workshop. The first time, it didn't work. My friend just answered my greeting and I was left in blue checks (via WhatsApp). But I went ahead and contacted another friend and asked for numbers of Designers. She sent me 3 and talked about their fortes experience and the kind of work each one did.
She couldn't tell me if she had a favorite. However, after explaining what I was looking for, she went ahead and recommended the girl from the group since she works with entrepreneurs. With no hesitation and I contacted her on Friday and we got right to business. It was funny. She sent me a Questionnaire via Google and I felt back at high school. The questions made me think about stuff I haven't considered before. I had to take some time to get over each question and analyse every answer. But I was able to come up with ideas that represent my work and myself through a brand.
I thought she would take more time since her delivery time is from 5 to 7 days. I guess she had an Eureka moment and did everything really fast. On Sunday, she sent me her proposal and lo, it was great!
In a PDF file there was this explanation of the concept behind the design. It's a clever thing. Using my initials she went ahead and introduced the idea of vibration to the mix. To make the story shot, when you play a string, it moves like you see in the photo. If we were to see a graphic of sound we would have peaks and valleys. Thus, the idea of the logo comes from making two A's following the patter of the movement of the strings and sound. It is a clever design. Needless to say, it was love at first sight.
As a funny thing, I also told her that the design looks like the long C-clamps we use in this kind of work to glue bridges. And she couldn't believe it. When things are meant to be, well, nothing stops them.
With no further a due, I present you the new logo of my workshop:
She also went ahead and added a gift to the deal. She made the labels for the instruments. But it was a big surprise since she made 3 of them. Now, I have labels to represent different levels of quality among instruments. And here you have them from basic to deluxe:
This is my appreciation post for designers and specially for the one who helped me recently. They make magic to create something wonderful from ideas and I bet they don't get everything clearly all the time. Nonetheless, they pull through and deliver something wonderful. Happy Design Day to all!
