"So long and thanks for all the fish."
Hello there, full-time weekenders!
Another weekend, another #weekend-engagement. Today, I wanted to pick my animal trait from the list given by the one and only G-dog and ponder about the significance of having such a boost to my puny human intellect.
What would happen if I had the intelligence of a dolphin? I'd like to go over the books by Douglas Adams. You know which, his trilogy of six books. And go over this one where we are told humans weren't close to the most clever creatures in planet Earth. The first place is disputed by mice and dolphins. Of the latter we just know they left the planet before it was destroyed and gave humans a glass bowl with the inscription mentioned above. It was a nice touch for having the kindness of feeding them something dolphins liked a lot.
What would change? Well, I'd have bigger head and the power of listening and producing ultrasound frequencies. But on an intellectual level, having more brain power will equate to the same thing that happens to a computer when you boost both ROM and RAM memories. More storage and processing capacity. I don't like to brag, but maybe I'd be solving world problems for breakfast and getting a lot of the work done by dinnertime. Dolphins are incredibly smart and they just play around the ocean and water parks.
Remember that episode by the Simpsons about the dolphins taking revenge on humanity? Well, I wouldn't try to bother them. They do very human things like having sex for fun and using drugs they find around the ocean to have a good time. That alone tells us they are smarter than they let us know for true.
With that processing power, I'd be making posts by months and having them schedule. My ideas for making instruments would go to a higher level and for sure everything I need to solve in the acoustics department will be done having a deep analysis and understanding of sound. Besides, if I have their ultrasonic abilities, I'd be even listening to the whole spectrum of music and construction we don't even know.
However, there's always a catch. Being so smart is often fuel for unhappiness and refrain from connecting to people. I can't say I would be the exception for that. On my current level I'm a very social person. I can navigate my way through social interaction and be done with it. It is exhausting most of the time. Having the intelligence of a dolphin would multiply that feeling. And for sure it'll mean being more focusing in solving problems and quenching my thirst for knowledge than actually helping people out. Not that I wouldn't do it, but when was the last time people accepted they needed help.
You don't need a dolphin' size intellect to know the answer.
In the short term, I'd be repeating the same thing the dolphins did in that novel, bidding farewell to all those people whom I love and going on my way to find some peace and more solutions to problems.
It doesn't sound so bad, right?
And I'd be sure to give these people a little bowl with this phrase. Trying not to copy the same genius title and having it on my own way. And also because fish is one of my favorite things to eat. Maybe I'm already part dolphin.
There's also the underlying fear of become like the vengeful dolphins from that Simpsons episodes. Imagine to be so smart you can propose ways to improve life for everyone and have politicians and millionaires stop you. The logical answer to it would be to eliminate all those who get in the way of the improvements. And as intellect goes up the moral gray area becomes bigger. I could see myself doing some shady things things in behalf of the world.
Yet, all remains to be seen.
They say a crown is heavy. Imagine if they try to carry the weight of intelligence
It would be a cool experience, but it would for sure have its toll.
