"Coffee is a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your older self."
- Terry Pratchett
Hello there, coffee-and-beverages lovers!
Sometimes coffee is the best excuse to get a sweet treat to quench a craving.
It's been a bit more than a a week since I had the chance to get some of the new cookies my friend, @generp, makes for her entrepreneurship. She makes some really good sweets and I have tried doughnuts and other things. So I already new the cookies were going to be good.
Want to know the best part? I bought enough to have some for the next day. To my surprise, the cookies were as good as new. That's a challenge with sweets. Some of them tend to get soggy once they are out of the oven or any kind of preparation method.
In the midst of enjoying my sweet treat and a cup of black sugarless coffee, some thoughts kept circling my peace. It was about jobs and how having some measure of structure affects life in some ways. Then, it occurred to me that people get involved in some things that spiral out of control and make them miserable. However, others love their jobs and the perks they give.
More and more, basic jobs are become some sort of slavery as hours get to ridiculous numbers and perks are reduced. Of course, it is not the nature of the job that make it intrinsically evil, but the people running the show. There's a phrase about not working for the dreams of others. There's also another about learning from the dreams of others to build your own.
With all of these, I'm trying to reach the conclusion of how skipping working for others have been a sort of detriment for my whole idea of getting where I want in life. Sure, I've managed a lot of things in my own. Nevertheless, I remember watching these shorts from entrepreneurs and rich people who built their fortunes from scratch and there's one thing that always comes back: get a 9 to 5 and don't leave it until you make the steady source of income. The advice doesn't go against changing jobs, but building upon the idea of having some money coming in the fashion of your country, every week, every two weeks, at the end of the month, etc.
Then, going through the things I do most of them look like nice hobbies. But hobbies are expensive. Not having a job hinders the opportunity of growth in those hobbies. Alas, it all feels harder than it should be. Anyway, I decided to start studying about topics that are become more and more relevant as the world is in the verge of a digital paradigm shift. Then, I also decided to find a regular job. One of those where you go and are around people. And that's a change on how things have been going.
Hopefully, there isn't cruelty involved in this nor bad times and long hours. Not like how coffee became its own big plantation crop in the past. But who knows how much of that bad work history still lives on today.
Anyone else let's their mind soar off so many things in just a sip? It is like that poem by Langstone Hughes about rivers. But in this case coffee as the traveling devices throughout some portions of histories. It be like:
I've sipped coffee
my mind has reached the light...
Thanks for going through my ramblings. Now, I'll go for some coffee!
