The hotel's security guard said the suspect entered through the main doors but was apprehended by police.
Another resident told The Local that he heard what sounded like a shooting and believed the building's windows had been shot out.
"When I heard those shots, I thought it was a bomb because the windows weren't even shot out. I saw four or five men, all laughing and joking," he added.
The hotel's guest services office told Reuters that no other staff were affected by the incident.
The hotel has been cited for "security breach" once before in December.
