Small things done...

It has been crazy cold these past weeks, and that has put a bit of a brake on our gardening activities... plus, being away on tour hasn't really helped either!

However, after spending most of the morning at the car registration desk... fun... something that was supposed to be a quick in and out for me, turned out to be a very lengthy two person job. And that meant that my wife had to postpone her plans to get the fruit trees that we were planning on planting... probably till later in the week. And I suggested that we just use the hour that we had left before the kiddie run and teaching sessions to quickly finish off the rocks on this lavender and tulip garden bed.

We had planted the tulips ages ago, and my wife had weeded the area in preparation for the rocks... but then we never got around to it. My wife said that she wanted to do it, as there was a specific area that needed the rocks and she was afraid that I would just dump them anywhere... and that meant that it just wasn't getting done instead.

So, we did a quick weed again, and I ripped up a lot of the grass that was starting to edge in... and together, we were able to finish off the white rocks in a short order!

I think that we probably need to get a few more lavender plants to go along the walls and maybe another couple in the foreground... and the area that isn't covered by the white rocks is where the tulip bulbs are buried. I'm not sure that I like that bit... I think that a thin layer of white rocks would look better, and the bloody tulips can just come up through them! I might suggest this later in the week...

Another thing that needs to be done is the edging... we are planning on having some thin sheet metal edging that we had seen in a friend's garden. Not that expensive... but I'm not sure if that replaces the rocks, or augments them... I kind of like the rock border myself...

... and our kiwi vines have gone into full hibernation... lots of leaves have dropped off, and I hope that they manage to survive this chilly chilly winter season!
