Ahhhh... I was wondering when my turn would finally come... it is the sort of thing that is pretty much unavoidable in my profession, where we are constantly travelling and being in close contact with a crazy amount of people through work and travel. The thing is, I was mostly surprised that I hadn't gotten Corona much much earlier... my wife had gotten it in the Delta wave in Europe, and despite the fact that I was still travelling for work in the hot mess that was Europe at the time and my kids were going to infested schools... well, the kids and I managed to still dodge it all!
Then... Omicron when we relocated back to Australia... and still nothing! Then Australia got swept away with Omicron... and still nothing! All through it all... we weren't being crazily cautious or anything like that... just not doing anything stupid like licking poles and handrails.
... but unfortunately, I got these faint lines on a test that I did the other day. And I knew that the bloody thing had caught up to me. I guess that by now, the variants are pretty weakish... and more is known about the whole thing... so, there is less of a dread about it all. Still, I don't really want to win the unlucky lottery where I'm the one that gets some sort of complication. I do feel a bit fuzzy minded, but I can't really tell if that is due to the tiredness of overworking and overtravelling the last month and a bit!
I'm not really that concerned for myself... I'm more concerned that if (when...) my kids get it, that they might have lasting effects... but that is the fretting voice of a concerned father. Eventually, something (if not this...) will happen to my kids, and we will all just deal with it... you can't shelter forever!
... and now, I am locked up in our room. I have the double bed and the ensuite... so, I have no reason to leave this area. Food is served up regularly... and I am blasting through a chunk of computer work and administration. So far, I'm not really feeling that sick... no fever, just a bit of a cough and a slight tiredness when I get up to do anything. I hope it stays that way...
EDIT: My wife just tested positive (for her second time...)... so, I'm now released from the prison as there is now no point keeping me isolated from the rest of the family. Time to start pulling my weight... the holiday is over.
