Where does creativity go when it’s not accessible to the mind?

These photos are from two sunsets in Sitges. The first photo shows the sun setting, and although I understand that chronologically this would be the last one, in my story today, the sun represents creativity, and it’s hiding.

This photo and the last one are from the same sunset, while the images in between are from the previous day’s sunset.

In the photos that follow, creativity—aka “the Sun”—plays with the clouds and exists in its own universe. Seagulls fly around it, and it’s so far away that it seems out of reach. Or so we think.

However, if we get closer to those subtle touches of creativity, we can feel the warmth of its rays caressing our skin. It’s also possible to see its lights and shadows outlined with varying degrees of clarity by the clouds. In the same way, we can hear the birds accompanying the sun’s movement...

¿A dónde se va la cretividad cuando no está accesible a la mente?

Estas fotos corresponden a dos atardeceres en Sitges, la primera foto muestra al sol poniéndose, y aunque entiendo que cronológicamente esta sería la última, en mi relato hoy, el sol representa a la creatividad, y está escondiéndose.

Esta foto y la última foto son del mismo atardecer, mientras que las imágenes intermedias corresponden al atardecer del día anterior.

En las fotos que continúan, la creatividad, alias "el Sol", juega con las nubes y está en su propio universo. Las gaviotas vuelan a su alrededor y está tan lejos que resulta inalcanzable. O al menos eso creemos.

Sin embargo, si nos acercamos a los roces sutiles con la creatividad, podemos sentir el calor de sus rayos acariciando nuestra piel. También es posible ver sus luces y sombras delimitadas con mayor o menor claridad por las nubes. De la misma manera, podemos oír a las aves acompañando el movimiento del sol...

Often, as artists who make a living—to a greater or lesser extent—from art, we get carried away by those famous creative impulses; but just like the sun, when it is hidden behind the clouds, creativity is still present and beats in our hearts just the same, even if the curtains of the mind close for a moment.

An artist must possess as much discipline as creativity. He or she must learn to raise the curtain when the mind closes it; he or she must begin to clear away the clouds with his or her hands and soul when they block out the sun.

Muchas veces, los artistas, que viven en mayor o menor medida del arte, nos dejamos llevar por los famosos impulsos creativos, pero así como el Sol, cuando queda oculto tras las nubes, la creatividad sigue estando presente y late en nuestro corazón de la misma manera, aunque las bambalinas de la mente se cierren por un momento.

El artista debe tener tanta disciplina como creatividad. Tiene que aprender a abrir el telón cuando la mente lo cierra, tiene que empezar a despejar las nubes con sus manos y con su alma cuando tapan al Sol.

These beautiful photographs of two sunsets in Sitges show the sun shining brightly, breaking through the clouds and casting its light. That is our creativity—it is always there, and we must learn to draw closer to it, even if it means just gently brushing against the threads of its light.

Estas hermosas fotografías de dos atardeceres de Sitges, muestran el brillo del sol con fuerza, destacándose por entre las nubes, mostrando su luz. Esa es nuestra creatividad, ahí está siempre, y tenemos que aprender a acercarnos a ella, aunque sea rozando suavemente los hilos de su luz.

I'll end this post with the sun beginning to set, shining brightly, as if it were creativity itself—radiant, realized, powerful, and yet very welcoming.
